For those who want to grow in their skills as coaches and possibly serve as coaches in the TCN process, the following training and certification process is available.
The Coach Clinic: Basics to Best Practices
The coach clinic is the first course in TCN Coach training. It was born from a survey of TCN coaches and coach facilitators. It addresses the needs of those who are new to coaching or looking to refine their skills. The course addresses the things that TCN coaches have been asking for: coaching fundamentals, working with a reluctant client, coaching them to set goals and be accountable for their growth and development, reviewing and experiencing best practices that will provide a framework for approaching the helping relationship in a way that will produce lasting results.
This is not a class where you sit behind a table and learn it all from a book, although a coaching materials and a best selling coaching book will be given with registration. This class will provide opportunities to observe, experiment, test and participate in coaching through a variety of settings and situations. It is designed as a coaching laboratory that fast forwards a coach’s development and increase his or her effectiveness.
Directional Coaching is the second course in TCN coach training. It is a follow up to the “Coach Clinic: Basics to Best Practices” which is the required prerequisite. Directional Coaching begins with a brief review of what was learned there and then the coach training will be taken to the next level.
- First, we will introduce over a dozen new tools that a coach can use in specific situations to help the coach client initiate a healthy “internal shift” in their thinking and perspectives.
- From there, we will focus on how one coaches to the 8 Core Competencies using some fantastic new resources for each competency which we are calling “skill builders.”
- Throughout the course time will be allotted to for participants to integrate what is being taught into a plan for coaching their TCN coach client. Questions will be answered and there will be the benefit and insights from others involved in the coaching process.
- The course will conclude with a segment on coaching your client through change and transitions. We will review the issues surrounding change and transitions and introduce some ways to coach the pastor and congregation in each phase.
